Are You Preoccupied with Thoughts of Food and/or Body Image?

If you are consumed with thoughts of food and/or struggles with your body it may be that you are disassociating from your feelings.

Dissociation is a mental process that produces a lack of connection in our thoughts, a separation of emotions, physical sensations, memories, actions or even our sense of identity. Most of us experience mild dissociation in our everyday lives. It's often called daydreaming, getting lost in a movie or a book, or driving home on autopilot. These examples of dissociation are normal, and a mild form of amnesia.

Dissociation can become a disorder when it begins during a person's developmental years and becomes habitual and ingrained. However, with so much emotional and physical turmoil and uncertainty going on in our world these days it's not unusual to try to avoid our feelings and emotions.

Stress is a biological response experienced on encountering a perceived threat. The body releases hormones, predominantly cortisol and adrenaline, which help prepare it to take action, for example by increasing the heart and speeding up breathing.  Many factors can trigger this Fight-or-Flight response, including dangerous situations and psychological pressures, such as work deadlines, exams, and sporting events.

This readiness to expend extra energy ideally passes quickly; however, some people find themselves in a nearly constant state of heightened alertness. Research Finds EFT Reduces Anxiety & Depression

Given the state of affairs here in the US and elsewhere many people are experiencing distressing and disturbing emotions.

If you are struggling with anxiety and depression, applying Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) aka Tapping can be a simple and effective way to experience relief!

In an article published in "Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice August 2017", “Secondary psychological outcomes in a controlled trial of Emotional Freedom Techniques (aka Tapping) and cognitive behavior therapy in the treatment of food cravings.” Anxiety and depression scores significantly decreased from pre-to post-intervention for the EFT group, and were maintained at 6- and 12-month follow-up.

In my practice I have witnessed first-hand how Emotional Freedom Techniques can relieve anxiety and depressive symptoms.

About 9 million Americans are relying on sleeping pills to get to sleep. The problem is even more prevalent in our senior population, with over one-half of adults over 60 reporting chronic sleep issues.
